Plans submitted for 'Angel of the South' giant horse
Plans to create a sculpture of a giant white horse dubbed the "Angel of the South" have been submitted to a council in Kent.
The sculpture would depict a horse at 33 times life-size.
The horse, designed by former Turner Prize-winner Mark Wallinger, was named as the winner of the Ebbsfleet Landmark Project in 2009.
The statue will represent the regeneration of north-west Kent, and the eastwards growth of London.
If approved by Gravesham Borough Council, the horse will be built near Eurostar's international railway station at Ebbsfleet.
Stephen Jordan, chairman of Ebbsfleet Landmark Project, said: "This is an important step on the journey for this ambitious project.
"We are all pleased to have made so much progress over the past few months."
If approved, it is estimated the sculpture could attract up to 60 million people each year, and will stand twice as tall as Antony Gormley's 66ft (20m) Angel Of The North, which was built in Gateshead in 1998.
The Ebbsfleet Landmark has been commissioned by Eurostar, London & Continental Railways and Land Securities, the developers of Ebbsfleet Valley.
It is estimated that the sculpture will cost £2m.
