New homeware store will bring 35 jobs to Tunbridge Wells
Monday 01st February 2010
A new homeware store is set to open its doors in Tunbridge Wells later this year – creating 35 jobs.
HomeSense, which sells high quality branded and designer goods at discount prices, is due to move into the new Royal Spa Retail Park on the North Farm Industrial Estate and start trading in late May.This will be a much-needed boost for the local job market in the tough economic times caused by the recession gripping this country.
The homeware retailer was only launched 18 months ago but already has 14 stores around the UK and is seen as a success story.
It is part of the TJX Europe umbrella, the group behind the TK Maxx chain of stores.
Its 15th store in Tunbridge Wells will be its first foray into Kent, with the nearest existing outlet being at Lakeside shopping centre in Thurrock, Essex, and another store being in Romford, Essex.
A HomeSense spokesman said: “HomeSense is different to other homeware retailers and so it should hopefully be a breath of fresh air for home shoppers in Tunbridge Wells.”
The retailer sells quality branded homeware at up to 60 per cent less than the recommended retail price (RRP).
Its buyers deal with 10,000 brands across more than 60 countries, so are able to sell designer items, as well as one-off pieces, for affordable prices.
HomeSense stores typically stock more than 30,000 different products, but pride themselves on getting in new items in every day.
The goods stocked from store to store therefore vary greatly.
The spokesman said: “HomeSense gives our customers the chance to 'create their home their way' by providing an ever-changing, eclectic mix of different homeware items from around the world.
“And daily deliveries mean there are new items to see every time our customers visit.
“So you won't see the same products every time you visit but if you see something you like you have to snap it up as it might not be there again, as we sell 90 per cent of current season stock.”
