The Kent Enterprise Trust has announced that Mark Quinn, managing director of leading Kent property developers Quinn Estates, has been appointed as their new Chair of Trustees.

The charity, based in Herne Bay, has been running for over 30 years and aims to change people’s lives by getting them into or back into employment, education or training. The Trust provides the opportunity for people to overcome their individual challenges so they can build confidence, learn, develop and improve their chances of employment.

Quinn Estates is a well known in Kent for delivering high quality schemes that benefit local communities. This announcement emphasises Mark Quinn’s commitment to the Herne Bay community, in conjunction with his ambitious plans to develop the former golf club site into a mixed-use scheme - the single biggest private investment in social and community infrastructure in a generation.

The Trust is based close to the former golf club site and Mark Quinn is a big supporter of the charity including leasing 50 car park spaces for their training and conference centre, at The Links, since 2012. Mark also has a personal association with the charity’s work as his son is autistic and as a result has an understanding of the challenges people face in life.

Speaking of Mark’s appointment to the Board of Trustees, charity Director Mirelle Frost said, “Mark is a recognisable public figurehead and ambassador for the Charity, his involvement and insight will help extend our reach and support to people beyond Herne Bay, Whitstable, Canterbury and Thanet with exciting, ambitious plans for the future.”

Mark said, “Kent Enterprise Trust does phenomenal things for people wanting to get ahead in their lives, teaching them to help themselves by providing access to good quality training and experience. I am proud to Chair the board of trustees and look forward to working more closely with the charity.

“My passion is building sustainable communities and I am excited by everything that’s happening in Herne Bay at the moment; it’s a pivotal time for the whole community and I relish the opportunity to play a part in leaving behind a positive legacy for the area.”

The redevelopment of the former Herne Bay Golf Club site received unconditional planning consent in November 2015.  Herne Bay Sports Hub will be a 100-acre mixed-use scheme including 572 homes, of those 171 will be affordable houses, office space, parkland and modern, first-class sports facilities. Also included in the scheme are highway safety improvements and medical and healthcare facilities.

The charity will now be recruiting a Vice-Chair to support and deputise for Mark.
