Furley Page to host cyber crime prevention event

Book your place at a free Cybercrime and Data Protection Law event on 6 December and learn how to protect yourself, urges Locate in Kent partner Furley Page.

This week’s attack on 20,000 Tesco Bank customer accounts has sparked renewed fears about businesses’ vulnerability to cybercrime.

The bank is the latest well-known brand to be hit by cyber attacks, along with Dixon Carphones, Sage, Sony PlayStation, TalkTalk, T-Mobile and Vodafone.

“It shows that any company, no matter how big, can fall victim to this type of crime,” warns Lucy Waldron, a solicitor at leading south east law firm Furley Page who specialises in dispute resolution. “In fact, a recent government survey* showed that many SMEs are being targeted, with nearly three-quarters of small organisations reporting a security breach last year.”

As a result Furley Page is urging Kent businesses to attend a free Cybercrime and Data Protection Law event to find out how to protect themselves. Lucy will be joined by Furley Page colleague Amanda Okill, a Senior Associate and employment law expert, and specialists covering IT, forensic accounting and insurance.

The event will cover the threat of cybercrime to businesses; the financial consequences and commercial impact; HR best practice in combating cybercrime; a legal update on data protection and the options open to victims; plus insurance and risk protection.

Furley Page will be joined by other contributors including Jacqui Offen, from Kent IT support and services company J & J Systems UK Limited; David Muggridge, from South East forensic accountants Ackland Webb Limited; and Laura Upton, a specialist insurance broker at Brookhurst Risk Solutions. The event will provide businesses with tangible ‘take-away’ advice to help them combat the threat of cybercrime.

The event is being held on Tuesday 6 December at Maidstone Mercure, Great Danes Hotel, Hollingbourne, from 8.30 to 11.45am (registration from 8am). To book, email Jacqui.offen@jjsystems.co.uk or call 01227 371375.
