The UK’s first pod homes will arrive at Peacock Rise in Walderslade

New state-of-the-art homes will soon be popping up in Walderslade, in an attempt to meet the demand for new homes in the Towns.

Medway Council is backing plans to create more kit houses in the community.

In January this year, Medway council gave the green light to the development of ready-made pod homes, and this week, a planning application submitted by Ene Group will make the pods a reality.

Three pods of 15 homes will land on site at Peacock Rise, Chatham, in on Wednesday.

The homes will arrive from Scotland 85% complete, with only the roof being added on site.

Once finished, the development will include 15 homes, and will be on sale from £185,000 for a one bed apartment, to £330,000 for a three bed semi detached house with a garage.

This type of house construction is 40% quicker than old methods, and from the day a pod arrives on site it can be ready to welcome its new residents within four weeks.

The homes come with a 60 year warranty.

Two of the larger homes at Peacock Rise will be ready for their new owners to move into by mid-April. The remaining pods will also be sold.

Cllr Diane Chambers, chairman of the council’s planning committee said: “Planning Committee was very impressed by the application from Ene Group.

“These are the first homes of this kind to arrive in Medway and it marks a new, more efficient era for house building. I look forward to seeing the homes completed, which thanks to their design shouldn’t be too long at all.”

Gary Mayatt, from Ene Group said: “Off-site construction has been a passion of mine for quite some time now, and I am keen to showcase what we manufacture in Scotland with a view to bringing a factory down to Kent in the long term.

“Peacock Rise is a personal project of mine and I’ve put my money where my mouth is to prove how good the concept is by showcasing our work.”
