  • First new build office scheme in Shepway for over a decade
  • Jobs and homes come back to rural site
  • Life returns after site empty since 2005

Quinn Estates is delighted to start work this month on transforming Stonegate Farm, a former egg packing facility in Stelling Minnis in Shepway, Kent into an exciting mixed use employment and housing scheme.

Mark Quinn, managing director of Quinn Estates was joined for the launch of the project on Friday (28/4) by Cllr Jenny Hollingsbee of Shepway District Council, Cllr Robert Hubble of Stelling Minnis Parish Council, Cllr John Argar of Elmstead Parish Council and Geoff Miles, chair of Kent and Medway Economic Partnership.

At least 39 jobs will be created for businesses located in the two high quality office buildings. An estimated 60 construction jobs will also be delivered over the course of the project.

As well as doubling the number of jobs that previously existed on site, Stonegate Business Park includes a stunning development of 30 homes, including nine affordable homes providing future residents with the opportunity to live and work locally.

The new business park is the first new  build office scheme to be developed in Shepway for over a decade and follows extensive consultation with local residents, which dealt with three key issues affecting them:  the provision of affordable homes;  re-design of the Stone Street/Curtis Lane/Thorn Lane junction; and a solution to flooding issues on Thorn Lane.

Mark Quinn said: “Across Kent we take pride in bringing forward schemes that not only deliver homes of the highest quality, but also deliver benefits to the local community through job creation and improved local facilities.

“Stonegate Farm is a common-sense redevelopment of a longstanding redundant facility that will bring huge economic, social and environmental improvements to the local area.

“Quinn Estates is bringing life back to an old derelict site that has lain empty and unused for more than a decade. We carried out extensive consultation, as we do with all our developments, listening to what the community wants and using that to produce what will be a stunning and sensitively designed rural development.

“The provision of quality office space in an area bereft of new-build commercial property has also been welcomed. Quinn Estates is creating a high-quality built environment, with accessible local services that reflect the community’s needs and supports it health, social and cultural wellbeing.

“Our plans are set to support a vibrant community, providing the supply of housing required to meet the needs of present and future generations.”

Geoff Miles, chairman of Kent and Medway Ecoomic Partnership and chairman of Shepway Business Advisory Board, said: “Stonegate Business Park is the whole deal; the thing about this development is that it will not only deliver jobs but it’s also creating houses for people to live in. It’s taking over a site that has been redundant for over 10 years and will now be useful to the community once again.”

'‘Kent has a need for quality business space and I welcome businesses being able to create much needed jobs here.”
