Legal help for elderly and vulnerable clients living in Kent and Medway has been boosted following the appointment of a highly experienced Senior Associate by leading law firm Furley Page.
Sarah Cladingboel has joined the highly-regarded Elderly and Vulnerable Client team, which has lawyers based in Furley Page offices in Chatham, Canterbury and Whitstable.
Sarah, who will spend much of her time supporting clients in Medway and north Kent, knows Medway well. She grew up in the Towns and attended grammar school in Chatham. She returned to Strood after university and is firmly settled there.
“Sarah’s experience is considerable and her appointment will further strengthen the services we provide for people in Medway and right across Kent,” says Nicola August, Partner and Head of the law firm’s specialised Elderly and Vulnerable Client team.
“The location of the Chatham office means that the team is able to advise clients both in Medway and further afield.”
Sarah says: “Our Elderly and Vulnerable Client team provides a vital service to people living in the Medway Towns. My roots are in this area and I understand that, for some people, visiting a law firm can be a worrying time and I look forward to making their relationship with us as comfortable and friendly as possible. To this end, I am happy to visit clients in their own home if they are not able to come to the office.”
Sarah’s arrival adds to an already formidable line up within the team.
Team leader Nicola August has been an Approved Panel Deputy of the Court of Protection for some years and has been successfully reappointed to the panel following a rigorous selection process. She is the only Panel Deputy in East Kent and Medway. Nicola is also a Dementia Champion and gives regular information sessions to those who have an interest in becoming Dementia Friends.
The Elderly and Vulnerable Client Team specialises in advising on all types of Powers of Attorney and also on Advance Decisions or Living Wills and how they compare with a Health and Welfare LPA. It has a particular interest in social care issues and advise on Care Fee Funding, NHS Continuing Healthcare with all its complexities and navigating Social Services.
Senior Associate Val Prosser has also been a volunteer for the charity Contact the Elderly for several years and was instrumental in setting up a local support group in the Herne Bay, Whitstable and Canterbury areas. She also passed with Distinction the STEP Advanced Certificate in Advising Vulnerable Clients, which highlights her expertise in this area of the law.
Both Nicola and Val are Fully Accredited members of Solicitors for the Elderly, a national organisation of lawyers who provide specialist legal advice for older and vulnerable people, their families and carers. Nicola is based in Canterbury and Medway, while Val mainly covers Canterbury and Whitstable.
Before joining Furley Page, Sarah was formerly an equity partner at a high street firm of solicitors in Kent and is a specialist in wills and estate planning, Court of Protection matters and Powers of Attorney.
She is a member of the Kent Law Society and of the Private Client Section of the Law Society. Her voluntary work includes being a Trustee of Swale Youth Development Fund, and being a former Chair of Trustees with MAGIC, the Medway Autism Group and Information Centre.
