SECOND AWARD WIN FOR YOUNG FURLEY PAGE SOLICITOR

Melanie Christodoulou and Harvey Barrett

A young solicitor at leading Kent law firm Furley Page has been praised for her significant and enthusiastic contribution to the legal profession through her community work.

Melanie Christodoulou, Private Trusts and Estates Solicitor, was named Junior Lawyer of the Year at the Kent & East Sussex Junior Lawyers Division Annual Achievement Awards ceremony in Tunbridge Wells. It is the second time she has been honoured this year, having already won a similar title at the prestigious Kent Law Society Awards in May.

Judges were impressed with Melanie’s cross-border work to build relationships and networks with the local Greek community, as well as showing a commitment to student projects at the University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University.

Melanie’s out-of-work commitments utilise the skills she uses as a member of Furley Page’s Private Client, Trusts and Estates team, which is a recognised practitioner by independent legal guide Chambers UK, and highly rated by The Legal 500. She specialises in Will drafting and inheritance tax planning, estate administration and Lasting Powers of Attorney.

Partner Harvey Barrett, Head of Private Client, Trusts and Estates, said Furley Page was proud of its track record in identifying and nurturing promising talent, with Melanie’s award a testament to the firm’s commitment to developing exceptional young solicitors. Melanie studied Law at the University of Kent in Canterbury and graduated with a First Class Honours, and completed her Legal Practice Course at the University of Law in London, obtaining a Distinction.  She commenced her training contract at Furley Page in 2014.

Harvey said: “Melanie has demonstrated she has the skill set needed not only to be a successful and impressive private client lawyer, but also a conscientious team player. She is kind and supportive of colleagues, highly ethical and focused on – and dedicated to – the success of the team in providing a high quality legal service.”

Since 2012, Melanie has worked with the Kent Law Society at the University of Kent, assisting students in their career development activities by running commercial awareness workshops and a mock interview competition. In 2016, she became a mentor with the Kent Law Society Professional Mentoring Scheme.
