Plans for a new office block in Ashford revealed

Plans for a proposed new office building that could create hundreds of new jobs in Ashford were announced this week.

The developers Quinn Estates, working alongside George Wilson Holdings, plan to build the 590,000sqm office block along Station Road, in part of the Dover Place car park between Platform 5 bar and The Everest Inn restaurant.

The proposed building will be part of the town’s ambitious growth plans for Ashford’s commercial quarter - the planned business hub next to Ashford International Station. Offices will take the upper floors of the building, while the ground floor will have retail space or a new food outlet.

Dan Marsden, from Quinn Estates, based in Canterbury, said the location is attractive due to the “proximity to the station” and the Ashford Designer Outlet, which has plans to almost double in size this year.

Mr Marsden added that the aim of the commercial quarter and this project is to attract businesses to invest in Ashford, which will ultimately create more jobs in the area.

Although it is unknown who will occupy the building, Mr Marsden said: “We are talking to several people at the moment” and hinted that the ground floor could be occupied by a new supermarket.

He added that it is an “exciting” time for Ashford.

Ashford Borough Council started work in the commercial quarter last year following their purchase of International House. Since then they have completed public realm works around the building and between Dover Place and Station Road.

The proposals for building are subject to a planning application, however it has not been confirmed when this will be submitted.
