Discovery Park, Sandwich
Discovery Park in Sandwich has been shortlisted for a top prize in the RICS Awards 2016, a prominent industry event which highlights the most inspirational initiatives and developments in land, property, construction and the environment.
Discovery Park, one of the leading business parks for science, technology and enterprise, is nominated in the commercial category for the south east region.
This category awards all types of outstanding commercial property developments from retail, office and leisure to industrial mixed use.
Discovery Park has been shortlisted after securing more lettings than any other science park in the UK. The Sandwich based park is now 65% occupied and home to over 120 companies, employing more than 2,400 people.
The park faces competition from four other projects, including the Fairgro Headquarters in Arundel; the Land Rover BAR Americas Cup HQ and Facilities Building, Portsmouth; The Wing, The Battle of Britain Memorial, Folkestone and Waitrose, Bagshot.
In addition to the category prizes, one shortlisted entry will also receive the coveted Project of the Year at the regional ceremony, which will take place on Thursday, 12 May at the Amex Stadium in Brighton, East Sussex.
All the South East winners will then be invited to the national RICS Awards in London later this year to compete against projects from across the UK.
Anna Stone, Leasing Director at Discovery Park, said: “From its former life as Pfizer’s European R&D space to becoming the UK’s flagship Enterprise Zone, there’s no doubting Discovery Park’s success and it’s a story that has only just begun.
“Being shortlisted for this top award is a real honour, not only for Discovery Park but for the thousands of people – from all sectors – who have played their part in continuing this site’s decades-long legacy.”
“With the refurbishment of Building 500, an iconic building for drug discovery in Pfizer’s day now underway – and its first science tenant due to move in next month - we’re already looking to the future and the site’s next chapter.”
