Plans to establish a large new Commercial Quarter in Ashford between the railway station and the town centre, by redeveloping the Dover Place car park, has moved a step closer.

Ashford Borough Council's Cabinet agreed last week the terms of the proposed land transaction to create a large business hub, the centrepiece of which will be an 80,500 sq ft office block at Dover Place that will include office space with retail and restaurants as well as car parking and landscaping.

The scheme now needs to be approved by Ashford Borough Council's planning committee this Wednesday (20 July) and agreed by a meeting of the full council on Thursday 21 July.

In total, the Commercial Quarter will include 590,000 square feet of office space and 150 homes.

Ashford Borough Council’s leader Cllr Gerry Clarkson said: “Taking this decision makes a significant statement about the council’s commitment to the regeneration of the town centre and demonstrates its faith and confidence in the borough."
He described the plans as an "exciting opportunity".

The council are working with local developers Quinn Estates Ltd and George Wilson Holdings Ltd on the Dover Place building.

Mark Quinn, managing director of Quinn Estates Ltd, said: “We are delighted that Cabinet approval has been granted for the first phase of the Commercial Quarter.

"This is a transformational scheme for Ashford, providing modern office space in a sensational location."
