The Kent Design & Development Awards have engaged a panel of high-level industry experts to help identify and celebrate the design excellence of the county’s property and construction industry.

The judging panel for this year’s Kent Design & Development Awards will be chaired by Brian Horton, director of Horton Strategic, and includes experts in architecture, conservation and design, housing and regeneration, as well as environmental, civil and structural engineering.

The other judges are Chris Clark, director of CTP Consulting Engineers; Ian Gutteridge, of Watson Day Chartered Surveyors; Chris Lamb, director of Design South East; Carolyn McKenzie, sustainability and climate change manager at Kent County Council; and James Robinson, the South’s director of Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

Brian Horton said: “Nominations into the Kent Design & Development Awards are all judged by their peers. This means we are able to properly understand the challenges all entrants face in their bid to create design and construction excellence.

“It gives me great pleasure to chair this very experienced panel of judges and I look forward to reviewing all the entries.”

The awards have six main categories: Commercial, Industrial and Retail; Conservation; Environmental Performance; Infrastructure and Renewables; Public Buildings – Education and Community; and Residential – Minor and Major. There is also the supreme trophy for Project of the Year, which is selected from the category winners, and is sponsored by DHA Planning.

DHA Planning, Kent County Council, and PR and marketing agency Maxim, jointly organise and sponsor the KDDA's which take place every two years and celebrate the design excellence of the county’s property and construction industry.

Further sponsorship is provided by bdb design, Clague Architects, CTP Consulting Engineers, Kent Construction Focus Group, Kent Design, Penenden Heath Developments, Quinn Estates, The Rochester Bridge Trust and Scape Procure.
