Northfleet Embankment East has been allocated as part of the next stage in the Ebbsfleet Garden City development, with 700 homes, a school and a shopping complex proposed for the site.
So far, the Ebbsfleet Development Corporation (EDC) has submitted a ‘scoping opinion’ to identify any possible environmental impact on the location and Gravesham Borough Council has been asked for its views on the proposal.
Northfleet Embankment East has been identified as one of the city’s seven strategic sites and the 29-acre plot of land could house eight-storey apartment blocks and 140sq m of shops and restaurants. The site is close is close to the remains of artillery defence structure the Gravesend Blockhouse and Rosherville Quay Walls, and opposite Tilbury Fort.
The managing director of building firm Keepmoat’s Southern homes division, Mike Dempsey, said: “We have been chosen as the preferred bidder in partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency and EDC to deliver new homes.
“We are working with stakeholders to finalise the plans and designs of the proposed new homes to ensure the development meets the aspirations for contemporary ‘Garden City’ living. We are proud and excited to be a part of this project.”
Elsewhere in Ebbsfleet Garden City, home buyers will have their first chance to buy apartments on a new development at Castle Hill, one of three main villages in the Eastern Quarry, from September.
Barratt Homes began construction work on the 112 homes earlier in the year and will begin selling them off-plan. A show apartment is expected to open shortly and the first buyers are likely to move in early next year.
The one, two and three-bedroom apartments have an open-plan layout, with most featuring terraces and wrap-around balconies.
Gravesham Borough Council has until Monday 5 September to put forward its views on The Northfleet Embankment East proposal. Any planning application will be considered by the EDC at a later date.
