Approval given for additional homes at Ebbsfleet Garden City

Another 233 homes have been approved on two sites at Ebbsfleet Garden City; with developers assuring 97 will be affordable.

Clarion and redrow drew up the plans for the homes; they were approved by planners at the Ebbsfleet Development Corporation (EDC) at a meeting on Wednesday last week, with the properties split across Ebbsfleet Green and Castle Hill.

Redrow was given permission to build 191 homes at Ebbsfleet Green, 55 of which will be for shared ownership or affordable rent. In total the developer is building more than 900 homes, along with a village centre, park, a hotel, a pub, sports pitches, and a primary school

Clarion’s scheme at Castle Hill in Eastern Quarry consists of 42 properties; these will also be shared ownership or affordable rent.

EDC interim chief executive Paul Spooner said: “I’m pleased the planning committee has approved another 233 homes for Ebbsfleet Garden City, with those affordable homes to meet local housing needs.

“The garden city is proving popular with those wanting to get their first step on the property ladder, with its wide range of quality new housing.”

In early April the EDC revealed work had started on more than 600 homes in the past year, with 5,100 due to be built by 2021, eventually rising to 15,000.

Its first primary school, Cherry Orchard, will open at Castle Hill in September, and its first pub to follow shortly afterwards.

This summer construction will start on a £12 million bridge linking Springhead Park and Ebbsfleet International station.
