Vooservers Join Trade Delegation Panel to China for Big Data Expo

Kent-based IT infrastructure company Vooservers has recently returned from a week-long trade delegation to South West China, for the Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Guiyang International Big Data Expo 2017 (organised by the Department for International Trade & the China-Britain Business Council).

Matt Parkinson, Technical Director at Vooservers, received a personal invitation to form part of the delegation panel, of which Vooservers was chosen to be the only data centre/managed services company - establishing itself as one of the UK’s most promising companies. Matt delivered a presentation on Vooservers to delegates at the Big Data Expo, as well as forming part of the discussion panel.

The delegation panel met on Sunday (21st May) in Guangzhou, with visits and events taking place until Saturday (27th May) at the International Big Data Expo in Guiyang. Based on the theme of ‘Digital Economy Leading New Growth”, this year’s event featured cutting edge products based on big data technology, face-recognition technology, virtual reality and artificial reality, and attracted over 50,000 visitors.

More than 40 forums were held throughout the expo focusing on seven core issues, including the national big data pilot zone, digital economy, blockchain, digital security, data sharing and opening, artificial intelligence and intelligent manufacturing. Other exhibits include big data application, smart manufacturing and information, infrastructure, e-commerce, and innovative application on the Internet.

Vooservers was also included on a trip to visit to the super computer centre in Guangzhou, where Matt was able to see very high performance servers. These systems allow for advanced usages, such as processing space program data and scientific data.

Matt Parkinson said: “It has been a great privilege to be invited onto the panel at the International Big Data Expo. The invitation is a demonstration of how Vooservers has grown into a leading, global brand.

“The trip has incorporated a number of activities for the delegates, from the opening ceremony of the expo, to conferences, dinners, forums and special exhibitions.

“It’s been a fantastic opportunity for Vooservers in many respects, as we’ve had the opportunity to mix with other key players in the big data and analytics market sector. It’s been great to meet new people and exchange ideas. In addition, it’s been  interesting to test the Chinese market first-hand. Being here has confirmed the potential of the planned expansion of our data centre operations into the Asia Pacific region later this year.”

Mark Hedley, from the China-Britain Business Council, said: “China-Britain Business Council recently supported a trade mission  organised by the Department for International Trade (DIT) to the Big Data Expo in Guiyang, which included visits to Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Chengdu.

“This is the third year a sizeable UK delegation has visited Guiyang, which was designated as the first national comprehensive big data pilot zone, with significant backing from the central Chinese government and the Premier Li Keqiang. A primary objective for this mission was to demonstrate the UK’s position as a world leader cloud computing, data analytics and artificial intelligence, as well as generating commercial opportunities for the companies involved.

“Over 20 leading British tech companies were carefully selected to join the visit, with leading players in speech recognition software, predictive analytics, and IoT sensor solutions represented in the group.

“As a global leader in data centre, cybersecurity and disaster recovery systems, VooServers represented the UK’s expertise in cloud computing technologies, generating a vast amount of interest from a number of potential partners and clients in the China region.”

The recent trip to China is yet another example in 2017 of how Vooservers is growing its international profile on a global basis. Vooservers now has datacentres across Maidstone, Frankfurt, New York and Seattle, ensuring additional connectivity on a worldwide basis. A further data centre is also planned for the Asia Pacific region later this year with discussions honing in on Singapore as the most likely location.

The team is working on a number of innovations that will provide clients with extended control and greater resiliency, wherever they are in the world, ensuring an uninterrupted ICT service.
