Kent County Council secures funding to help support local life science companies

Kent County Council has secured funding to help support local life science companies with small business grants.

The authority is making the grants available via its ‘Boost4Health’ project to help the businesses develop new health products and access European markets.

KCC is offering three small grant schemes:

  • Up to €3,000 for market insight activities – for example, engaging an expert to carry out market research in one of the European partner regions
  • Up to €5,000 towards product validation – for example, product testing and consultancy
  • Up to €500 for travel and accommodation costs to attend life science events in North West Europe or to visit a company in one of Kent’s partner regions.

Upcoming events businesses can attend include the Nordic Life Science Days in Sweden in September, the Week of Health and Innovation in Denmark in October Bio Europe Autumn in Germany and BioFit in France in November.

The project is funded by the Interreg Europe programme, part of the European Regional Development Fund, which i designed to stimulate cooperation between regions in the European Union.

It aims to support companies in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical technology and nutrition sectors, by providing free growth coaching and financial support to simplify international trading and support those businesses with market entry.

Life science companies can also get involved in the Medica 2017 trade fair which takes place in Dusseldorf on November 13-16.

Boost4Health is offering businesses that attend Medica:

  • €500 travel grant to help towards travel and accommodation costs
  • A base at the event and a space for promotional materials on the Locate in Kent stand on the UK Pavilion
  • Networking opportunities with Enterprise Europe Network and the Boost4Health project

If you are interested in applying for a travel grant or would like to know more about the project, email Emily.Paulding@kent.gov.uk
