Hornby puts Discovery Park on track to hit jobs target

Discovery Park, Sandwich

Discovery Park, Sandwich

From 1 May 2015, Hornby will base its management, sales and marketing, accounts and human resources at the 220-acre science and technology park, which is one of 24 UK Enterprise Zones.

The move follows the company’s recent relocation of its warehousing and distribution operations to Hersden, near Canterbury.

Hornby will occupy a 16,000sqft office at The Gateway at Discovery Park. The new offices are seven miles from Hornby’s existing site.

The company recognised that its current offices and site weren’t fit for purpose if it was to remain competitive in its international markets.

Nick Stone, Group Finance Director at Hornby plc, said: “We considered Discovery Park to have the best office facilities available. The site also offers room for us to grow, an innovative environment to do business and a positive ethos, gained from being based amongst other businesses there.

“In theory, we could have relocated anywhere, however we were intent upon staying in East Kent for a number of reasons, not least because of the many loyal and experienced employees we have here, but also due to the area’s regeneration and transport links.”

Paul Wookey, Chief Executive of Locate in Kent, added: “Companies like Hornby can be extremely mobile in terms of where they choose to make their home. It is clear the combination of its existing skilled workforce, and the offering of Discovery Park and its Enterprise Zone status, have helped to retain this longstanding company employing 200 people in East Kent.”
