With data security topping the business agenda, Absols, a growing IT support firm, has achieved two major standards to underline its credentials.
It took the Maidstone-based firm just eight weeks to qualify for both ISO 9001, the seal of quality, and ISO 27001, the assurance of IT information and security management.
The standards follow a successful year in which Absols won Government-backed Growth Vouchers, took on more staff and hired its first apprentice.
They enable the firm to tender for higher value contracts, part of the firm’s ambitious growth strategy that includes a pledge to take on another apprentice. Its first apprentice Joe Kent, 22, has been taken on as a permanent IT engineer.
Absols was well prepared for ISO 9001, having already installed a professional logging system to monitor the status of every project and enquiry.
The British Assessment Bureau, based in Kings Hill, assessed Absols.
Paula Wilkinson, Absols’ development director, said the assessor had found very few issues with the firm’s processes. It was not a “tick-box exercise” but one designed to suit the business and its clients.
The firm had already implemented most of the requirements of ISO 27001.
Paula said the standard confirmed the firm’s commitment to integrity and data security at all times. That included robust firewall and virus solutions, security of premises and back-up in the event of a break-in or fire.
“IT support is almost totally unregulated – anyone can start a company. This standard says we have all the right systems in place and are a successful and reputable business. It ensures we look after our customers’ data in a secure manner. Everything we say, we do.”
The exercise included a client questionnaire that found 100% would recommend Absols and rated its services value for money.
Paula added: “Nowadays, clients and prospective customers are naturally concerned about data security. They can now be assured that our processes are of the highest quality.”
