The first masterplan images of the possible future for the Manston airport site have been released ahead of a potential planning application later in the year.

Inspired by redevelopment schemes of European airports in Stuttgart, Berlin and the Netherlands, two concepts have been released, both of which include commercial space, residential development and open parkland.

The project is being led by international property experts GVA, the advisors behind the regeneration of Discovery Park in Sandwich, which is also owned by Manston’s owners Chris Musgrave and Trevor Cartner.

Mr Musgrave said: “There is still work to be done before we have a completed blue-print but we are on track to complete this initial preparatory work.

“In the meantime we are very encouraged by the amount of interest being shown in the site from prospective employers who are excited by our vision and delivery record.”

Consultation on the master plan is expected to take place in June, with a view to an application being submitted before the end of 2015.

Redevelopment of the site is expected to create 4,000 jobs.
