Renewable energy technologies in Kent
Kent has a strong reputation with businesses involved in the offshore wind industry
The county has welcomed investment in offshore and onshore wind, solar farms, biomass and waste-to-energy plants, and also nurtured a community of environmental technology companies now promoting their services around the world.
Recognised as a Centre of Offshore Renewable Engineering (CORE), and home to the world’s largest offshore wind farm – London Array – as well as investments by Vattenfall, Kent has established a strong reputation with businesses involved in the offshore wind industry.
Regeneration projects across Kent supported by the Low Carbon Kent business network
With major regeneration projects across Thames Gateway and East Kent, and the prospect of a Garden City at Ebbsfleet, the potential for sustainable construction, energy management and environmentally-friendly technologies, makes Kent an attractive place to establish a business in this field.
Renewable energy technologies are being developed by businesses and the county’s universities, as well as at Discovery Park and Kent Science Park. The University of Kent and University of Greenwich each have expertise in the cleantech arena, as well as an ability to work with companies and support them through the development process.
