Discovery Park in Sandwich has established itself as one of the UK’s top science parks with a fantastic track record in drug discovery. Industry-leading labs and small scientific teams commercialising the next big idea work side-by-side across this 220-acre science campus.
It is just one of seven Life Science Opportunity Zones in the UK, working closely with universities across the region but also in partnership with scientific organisations, including the BIA, OBN and One Nucleus.

The South East had the highest employment of all regions in the UK as of 2021, accounting for 24% of all employment in the life science sector.
The number of jobs supported by the life science sector across Kent and Medway, accounting for 9.3% of all jobs.
The number of life science enterprises in Kent in 2022 accounting for 2.6% of all enterprises.

Life Science cluster in the region…
Mylan, Diasorin, Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Smiths Medical and over 450 other life science sector companies have made Kent their home over the years, putting the county on the map as a key location for UK science: from bio-tech, pharmaceuticals and diagnostics to global science logistics, med-tech manufacturers and contract research organisations.
In addition to Discovery Park, there is Kent Science Park in Sittingbourne – part of the UK wide Pioneer Group science park family with further clusters developing at Innovation Park, Medway and Kent Medical Campus in Maidstone. As of July 2023, some 59,500 jobs are supported by the life sciences sector in the region.
